Happenings at FTFD  Week Ending 3/5/2010

Another head on collision on US 601 Hwy brought crews out early Friday morning.  Patients had to be extricated from the vehicles.
Crews from Salisbury Fire Depts. Quint 3 extricated one patient while Rowan Rescue 918 extricated the other.  Franklin E551 had a protection line in place, Franklin E561 and Ellis E481 established a landing zone for helicopter transport, but due to an extended ETA the helicopter was diverted to Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Again, our thanks go out to mutual aid companies.

Driver\Operator training has begun for the new engine.  It will probably take about a month before operators are fully trained and we can get the equipment changed over from the old engine.

FTFD was alerted of a structure fire Thursday evening.  Along with mutual aid from Locke Township, Ellis Crossroads, Woodleaf, and Salisbury's Quint 3.

We arrived to find an apparent kitchen fire.  Initial crews pulled an attack line and waited for the backup line to be manned and then entered the structure and extinguished the fire.  Salisbury's Quint 3 was assigned primary search.  Ellis crews were assigned to water supply, and Locke and Woodleaf crews stood by.

Locke brought there new Rescue truck and along with Rescue 55 had the front of the structure lit up to almost daylight levels.

Many thanks to all mutual aid departments.

Happenings at FTFD  Week Ending 1-29-2010

Well we have gotten word that our new engine is ready for final inspection and delivery.  Our plans are to leave this Sunday to go and get it.  Hopefully the snow does not change those plans.

Stay tuned to this page and I will update it with pictures and such from the trip as it happens.

We ran a total of 5 calls this week.
2 EMS Medical calls
1 Smoke in a structure
1 Fire Alarm Activation
1 Standby assignment

Of those 5 calls we received mutual aid 2 times and gave mutual aid 1 time.

FTFD was dispatched to smoke in a structure.  Salisbury's Quint 4 arrived first on the scene with a haze of smoke inside the structure. They were at the back of the structure, and Engine 551 arrived and staged at the front of the structure.  The source of the smoke seemed to be coming from an HVAC unit.  The power was disconnected and repairmen confirmed that it was the fan motor.  We ventilated the structure to remove the smoke.

Again, thanks to all of the mutual aid companies that assisted.

Our new engine should be ready for delivery anytime now.

This past weekend was the fire seminar in Winston-Salem.  I think it had a few more vendors than it has had in previous years.  There were many trucks and we got quite a few ideas for mounting tools and such for the new truck.
